Reel Alternatives tests matinee screening for Eleanor The Great

Reel Alternatives, Huntsville’s connection to the TIFF Film Circuit, is trying something new for their screening of Eleanor The Great on Monday, January 26 – they’re adding a 2 p.m. matinee in addition to their regular 7 p.m. evening show.

“We’ve had a number of audience members request matinee screenings during the winter months, when driving at night can be more difficult,” says Laura Kennedy, president of the non-profit group. “We thought Eleanor The Great would be the perfect film to test out an afternoon time slot. If it’s successful, and feasible from a cost standpoint, we’ll consider adding matinees for select future films.”

Oscar nominee and June Squibb (Thelma) stars in Scarlett Johansson’s thoughtful, provocative, and very funny feature directorial debut, about a nonagenarian who passes herself off as a Holocaust survivor. (Squibb was 95 years old when she did the film.) After the loss of her lifelong best friend, Eleanor uproots her quiet life in Florida for a fresh start in New York City. Struggling to find her footing, she unexpectedly bonds with a college student, Nina, and tells a small lie that grows more complicated as their friendship deepens. Anchored by a luminous performance from Squibb, Eleanor The Great is a tender and funny reminder that it’s never too late to start over.

Eleanor The Great is generously sponsored by the Huntsville Community Choir, who will be giving away tickets to their St. Paddy’s Day concert at both showings.

The next film on deck from Reel Alternatives is the awards season darling, Sentimental Value, on February 23rd

Tickets for all films are available for $10 online at reelalternativeshuntsville.ca or algonquintheatre.ca, at the door or by calling the Algonquin Theatre box office at 705-789-4975. Reel Alternatives Huntsville gratefully acknowledges their partnership with Film Circuit, presented by the Toronto International Film Festival, and its sponsors and supporters.
