Reel Alternatives Huntsville is launching its next season in partnership with the Algonquin Theatre with a sure-fire crowd pleaser, Jane Austen Wrecked My Life, on Monday, September 22.
Longtime supporter, Oxtongue Craft Cabin & Gallery is sponsoring this contemporary comedy about an aspiring author who takes up a writing residency and finds herself in the sort of romantic entanglements that could come from the pages of a Jane Austen novel.
The rest of the non-profit group’s fall film schedule features the documentary One to One: John and Yoko on October 6th (just days ahead of what would have been John Lennon’s 85th birthday) followed by The Life of Chuck, which is based on the Stephen King novella and was the 2024 TIFF People’s Choice Award winner, on October 20th. Next on the list is The Penguin Lessons on November 3rd, a poignant dramedy starring Oscar nominee Steve Coogan about an Englishman’s personal and political awakening after he adopts a penguin during a cataclysmic period in Argentine history. The final film of the year on November 17th will be The Wedding Banquet a joyful comedy of errors about a chosen family navigating cultural identity, queerness and family expectations starring Bowen Yang (Saturday Night Live) and Oscar nominee Lily Gladstone (Flowers of the Killer Moon).
In addition to this diverse line-up of films for the Fall season, the group is delighted to welcome a new addition to its committee, filmmaker, Geordie Sabbagh. He looks forward to exploring new opportunities to involve Reel Alternatives in the community and expand Reel Alternatives’ audience in exciting new ways. As an accomplished filmmaker himself, he also brings a keen eye and fresh perspective to the group’s film programming. He joins other committee members Laura Kennedy, Rob Saunders, Cheryl Stamper, and Cydney Jones who is taking on a new role, that of Treasurer. Tickets for all films are available for $10 online at reelalternativeshuntsville.ca or algonquintheatre.ca, at the door or by calling the Algonquin Theatre box office at 705-789-4975. Reel Alternatives Huntsville gratefully acknowledges their partnership with Film Circuit, presented by the Toronto International Film Festival, and its sponsors and supporters.
