Reel Alternatives is proud to present a special matinee screening, Saturday, May 9th – 2 pm, of WALL·E in support of Huntsville High School’s championship robotics team, Hoya Robotics. The fundraising event will bring the community together for an afternoon of film while helping power the next generation of innovators.
All of Reel Alternatives’ proceeds from the screening will go directly toward supporting Hoya Robotics as they design, build, and compete with their next championship robot. Recognized as one of the top student robotics teams, Hoya Robotics represents the creativity, discipline, and technical excellence of young people in Muskoka.
“This is about supporting some of the brightest young minds in the world,” says organizer Geordie Sabbagh. “They’re going up against teams backed by NASA and Google — and they’re winning. But they’re doing it without the same resources. That says everything about what this community is capable of when we show up and support them.”
Laura Kennedy, president of Reel Alternatives, says, “This is the first time Reel Alternatives has taken on presenting a film with the sole purpose of fundraising, and we really hope it’s a great success for the students.”
The matinee screening of WALL·E — a film that celebrates curiosity, ingenuity, and environmental responsibility — is a fitting tribute to the spirit of the team it supports. Robots will be on hand!
Community members of all ages are encouraged to attend and contribute to this important local initiative. The group is also looking for sponsors to support the screening, with 100% of those dollars going to the team. Book tickets, see the trailer, and learn more about sponsorship opportunities at reelalternativeshuntsville.ca.
