Reel Alternatives announces matinees for next three films

Sentimental Value, Lilith Fair: Building A Mystery, and Hamnet will all have two screenings

With the success of its first matinee last month, Reel Alternatives is adding afternoon screenings for its next three films through to the end of March.

Multiple Oscar nominee, Sentimental Value is up first on  Monday, February 23rd, followed by Lilith Fair: Building a Mystery on March 9th. This fascinating doc about Sarah MacLachlan’s ground-breaking all-female concert series is scheduled to align with  International Women’s Day, which takes place the day prior. Rounding out the winter schedule is  another Oscar favourite, Hamnet on March 23rd, which tells the story of love and loss that inspired the  creation of Shakespeare’s timeless masterpiece, Hamlet.

“The response to our first matinee in January was overwhelmingly positive,” says Laura Kennedy, long-time Reel Alternatives committee member. “It was an easy decision to offer 2 pm shows in addition to  the regular 7pm screenings for the rest of the winter season, and we’ll see how it goes.” Once longer days return in spring, the group will return to an evening-only schedule.

Sentimental Value has earned a ton of critical buzz during awards season with nine Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, Director, Screenplay, Editing, International Film, Lead Actress (for Renate  Reinsve) and Supporting Actor and Actress nods for Stellan Skarsgård, Elle Fanning and Inga Ibsdotter  Lilleaas. This masterful drama is an intimate, moving, and often funny film about a director’s bid to revive his career and repair his family’s broken bonds. Sentimental Value is generously sponsored by  Hear Well, Be Well Huntsville. Tickets for all films are available for $10 online at reelalternativeshuntsville.ca or algonquintheatre.ca, at the door or by calling the Algonquin Theatre box office at 705-789-4975. Reel Alternatives Huntsville gratefully acknowledges their partnership with Film Circuit, presented by the Toronto International Film  Festival, and its sponsors and supporters.
