Following closed session discussions, District council emerged with a resolution to move forward with the redevelopment of Fairvern Nursing Home on donated lands on Centre Street.
The redevelopment had originally been planned for lands near the hospital, but District council decided in August that it would not proceed with that location.
The resolution notes that staff have conducted a preliminary review of the property and determined it would be suitable for the new Fairvern Nursing Home.
Staff was directed to proceed with the required acquisition of the lands, donated by former Huntsville Mayor Claude Doughty and his business partner.
A press release is expected to be issued tomorrow with further details. (Update, Sept. 21: read the media release here.)
