As the annual Huntsville Band on the Run approaches, race directors are releasing the route changes that may affect your usual Saturday morning routine.
This Huntsville running and music event takes place Saturday June 10th, 2017. Race directors say they are working hard to ensure that it continues to be a great experience for participating runners by accommodating construction on Hwy 60 with route changes and ensuring the enjoyment of the growing number of music festival attendees with a shift in venue location.
To ensure the runners are safe during the race there will be a police-patrolled, full-road closure that will affect part of Huntsville from 8:00 a.m. to noon. See the routes posted below. Plan this into your schedule as you will not be able to drive on the restricted roads during race time.
The route is an out and back loop with start and finish near the Algonquin Theatre on Main St E. Start Westbound on Main St E, turn left on West St S (Pharmasave), turn left on High St, turn right on Brunel Rd, turn right on Princess St, turn left on West St S, turn left on Veteran’s Way, turn right on Brunel Rd. We call this “The Blender” for obvious reasons. Proceed south on Brunel Rd to Hillcrest Dr. Turn left on Hillcrest Dr and continue on South Fairy Lake Rd which turns into Riverside Dr, until you reach Brunel Rd. Turn left on Brunel Rd, and proceed south on Brunel to North Mary Lake Rd. Stay right on North Mary Lake Rd and follow North Mary Lake Rd southbound. At the 3-way intersection with Chubb Lake Rd, turn left and continue on North Mary Lake Rd southbound to the 1/2 marathon turn around point past Seely’s Rd. Turn around and head north on North Mary Lake Rd following the same route in reverse until Town Line Rd E. Turn right on Town Line Rd E, and continue up the gradual hill to the University of Waterloo building on Forbes Hill Drive (the highest point on the course), then down the steep hill behind the Active Living Centre and follow Camp Kitchen Rd to Park Drive. Turn left on Park Dr and follow the road under the Canada Summit Centre entrance through the parking lot south to Brunel Rd. Turn right on Brunel Rd, and then left on Veteran’s Way. Right on West St S, right again on Princess St which becomes River St. Turn left on Main St E and continue to the finish line near Algonquin Theatre.
Race Directors are very excited to announce that Hey Rosetta! will be the main performer at the afternoon music festival that will be held at Lions Lookout Field. Three thousand people are expected. Anyone wishing to attend the music festival can purchase tickets directly on the Band on the Run web page. Runners participating in the event do not need to purchase a ticket. It is included with their race registration.
The first five years of Band on the Run have been a great success. Race directors credit the dedicated local volunteers as a key factor in the success of the event. Volunteers are needed for both the morning running event and the afternoon music festival. Volunteers receive t-shirts and entry to the music festival. Anyone interested in volunteering can do so at http://bandontherun.ca/volunteers/
