Premier Kathleen Wynne made a funding announcement Friday, May 26, at the Stephenson Road 1 Bridge. She said the province will be picking up 90 per cent of the bridge replacement cost, shared by the towns of Huntsville and Bracebridge.
The province will be kicking in up to an estimated $1.76 million to help pay for the joint project under the Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund.
“The new bridge now has the structural integrity to allow unrestricted use by heavy winter service vehicles, emergency response vehicles and the general public. It will help ease the flow of traffic and increase road safety, creating a better quality of life and more economic opportunities for local families and businesses,” according to a media release issued by the province.
“Improving local infrastructure in Bracebridge and Huntsville is part of our plan to create jobs, grow our economy and help people in their everyday lives,” states the release, adding “Bracebridge and Huntsville are among the 426 communities that will receive increased support from the province this year through the Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund (OCIF) to build and upgrade local infrastructure.”
Funding for infrastructure includes hospitals, schools, public transit, roads and bridges. To learn more about the projects the province is funding, click here.

Too bad they didn’t angle the bridge so you can see oncoming traffic in both directions. Very unsafe when you approach the bridge and there is a vehicle already on the bridge that you cannot see and you have to back up.
In my opinion it is a very bad design for Safety!
