In an email to its members on July 4, the Port Sydney & Utterson Area (PSU) Chamber of Commerce announced that it had enough votes to continue moving forward with a plan to merge with its Bracebridge counterpart.
Chamber members were asked to vote on the proposed merger at a meeting held last month at the Pine Lodge Country Inn in Port Sydney. Twenty-three of 99 chamber members attended the June 19 meeting. All twenty-two of the voting members—the president can’t vote except to break a tie—voted unanimously in favour of a merger.
An electronic vote was sent to the remaining members who were not at the meeting. Thirty additional votes were received for a total of 52. The motion passed 47-5.
The same motion will now be brought to the Bracebridge Chamber members for a vote.
“We are excited to continue our 14-month partnership with Bracebridge and are committed to highlighting the business and areas of both Port Sydney/Utterson and Area,” wrote Kim Dubeau, President of the PSU Chamber.
“Sharing of services and sharing of costs has made a big difference,” she added in a conversation with Doppler. “Very happy with the results…I’m hoping that Bracebridge will be positive on (the motion).”

As a taxpayer in Huntsville , I would like an explanation of why Huntsville should commit funds to support PSCC when they are part of a group that is part of Bracebridge Economic endeavors .Sharing of costs and services is vague and I would think that Huntsville Chamber would quite likely could have provided the same. When you tie your wagon to Bracebridge , don’t expect Huntsville horses to pull it….PS..must have been quite a sales job by BCB to have a group join with a Municipality they are not in !
