Patrick Paul Yantha

It is with great sadness that the family of Patrick Yantha announce his death on October 31, 2024. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Jane and his sons Paul, Bryan (Ellen), and grandson Logan. Also feeling his loss is his large family of nieces, nephews and cousins, and his brother Frankie.

Pat was born on April 28, 1949 in Whitney. It was a large and happy family. He was the first son to parents Frank and Stella Yantha. He was a big surprise to his five older sisters, Gladys, Alice, Rita, Vivian and Marion. Pat eventually became the older brother to Frankie. Pat gained a strong work ethic from his dad and a set of skills that would form the foundation of his future as a man who could work with his hands and any tool ever invented. From his mother he learned how important it was to help others, give of yourself, plant and harvest a garden, and bake buns. As well, growing up in Whitney fostered a lifelong love of the outdoors and fishing.

Pat came to Huntsville as a teenager to finish high school where he made many lifelong friends who recognized his fun-loving nature and sense of humour along with the fact that he owned a Volkswagen. Summers were spent working at Taylor Statton Camps in Algonquin Park where he worked with his dad, helping with maintenance. After high school, Pat went to teachers’ college in North Bay. Working with people, especially kids led him on a path that he travelled for the next 31 years of his life.

Pat spent his career as a teacher and vice principal in Huntsville at Huntsville Public, Riverside and Spruce Glen schools. Over the years he touched the lives of countless students, parents and colleagues, many of whom told him personally how thankful they were for his help, guidance, or shoulder to lean on.

Retirement led Pat down new paths, building kitchen cabinets, building a family cottage, doing volunteer work through the Knights of Columbus, Meals on Wheels and Alzheimer Muskoka.

During all those years in Whitney and Huntsville, Pat made many friends. They brought joy, laughter, and loyalty to him, as much as he gave to them.

Work, volunteering and helping others were strong influences on Pat but top of his list was his dedication to his family. His wife and sons came first in his life. He was the rock on which his family was built. That love went deep, as over the years, he also cared for his mother, sisters and brother.

Pat is gone from us now, but he will always remain in our hearts and in our memories.
