The 4th Annual Paddle for Fairvern (held August 6), raised $13,934 in pledges for the facility’s redevelopment. Forty paddlers launched at Hutcheson Beach and made their way through town and across Fairy Lake before reaching their final destination at Hidden Valley Beach 15 kilometres later.
A celebratory barbecue and prize awards were held at Hidden Valley Highlands Ski Area.
Funds raised will go toward the redevelopment of Fairvern Nursing Home. The 76-bed facility no longer meets Ministry of Health regulations and must be redeveloped or closed.
A Special Council Meeting is being held today, August 8, to discuss the possible acquisition of donated lands near Huntsville District Memorial Hospital for the future redevelopment of Fairvern. Read the advance story on Doppler here.
