Muskoka Soccer Roundup:  U11 Girls net 12 in first win

The Muskoka United FC (MUFC) U11 Girls picked up their first win of the Huronia District Soccer League season this week.

And it was a big win at that. The MUFC girls won 12-0 over North Simcoe with Jane Holik leading the way with four goals in the match.

Other scorers for Muskoka included Mackenna Gibbons with two and six others with one each (Teagan Holik, Leia Evans, Emma Lapp, Val Robinson, Marlowe Kerr and Josephine Whitfield).

Not only did the team perform on the offensive end, but the defense was strong as well, and Chloe Boyes picked up a clean sheet in net.

“Everyone contributed to a great night for the team,” says coach Dan Gibbons.

The U11 girls were at a festival in Barrie on Saturday before a Monday night match-up with North Bay.

IModel Teams

The U17 Boys are still a little bit away from their next match as their opener away to Sudbury, originally scheduled for this week, has been postponed until July 19.

Their first game in the IModel C2 Division will take place on July 17 at Bracebridge’s Gostick Park at 7:15 p.m. against Richmond Hill.

The U15 Boys, playing in the C3 Division, got a much-deserved victory on July 2 at Gostick Park. Everyone stepped up their game in the 5-0 victory over Lake Simcoe SC.

Kyliam Coulombe scored three, with Myles Wilson and Alexander Lee added on a piece for Muskoka. Jaxon Liddle got the clean sheet in goal.

The boys next match is host Barrie White on July 9 at Gostick Park at 7 p.m.

Huntsville District Soccer League

The U10 Boys had a tough go this week, falling 6-0 to Collingwood. They head to Barrie on Monday looking to rebound in their tilt against the Cardinals.

The U11 Boys fought hard but dropped a 6-3 decision to Collingwood this week. Huw Grandy scored twice, and Lincoln Stephens added the other goal for Muskoka. They were in action on Sunday at Pollington Field in Huntsville against Sudbury.

The U12 Boys had a bye week and their next match away to Orillia on July 8.

The U14 Boys had a bye week. Their next match is away to Orillia on July 9 in the HDSL Cup first round.

The U9 Girls were also on a bye week. Next up are a pair of home matches at Pollington Field against Sudbury on July 13.

The U12 Girls dropped a competitive 2-0 result to Collingwood this week. Next up is a trip to Collingwood on July 9 where MUFC will look to reverse the result.

The U14 Girls were on a bye week and next take on North Bay at McCulley South on July 9. Game time is 7:15 p.m.

The U15 Girls, playing in a U16 division, had a break this week. They take on North Bay in the first round of the HDSL Cup on July 7.

The U17 Girls competed at the Gaels Cup Tournament in Kingston this weekend. The girls played well and finished with one tie and two losses. Each of their losses was by only one goal and could have gone either way.

The Over 45 men’s team played to a very exciting 4-4 draw at home against the defending league and cup champion Nottawasaga this week. Michael Van Den Bos had a hat trick, while player-manager Steve McCallum added the other.

The game was a back-and-forth affair in the truest way – Nottawasaga had an early lead, Muskoka stormed back and took a late lead, then it ended up tied.

Up next the old timers head down Highway 11 to take on the Barrie Packers on July 11.

Huntsville Women’s League

In Week 6 action at Conroy Park in Huntsville, the SportLab picked up a hard fought victory over On The Docks Pub by a score of 2-0, while Muskoka Tea Company continued their stellar start to the campaign, beating Muskoka Marshmallo Company 5-3. Muskoka Tea Company is now 6-0-0 this season.

This week’s Women’s Soccer League, sponsored by David and Donna Buckley, Player of the Match awards were won by Alayna Heinz, Jessica Coker, Kerri Corbett and Miranda Holmes.

League play resumes Monday, July 7th at 6:30 p.m. The league welcomes well wishers to head out and support the teams.

Huntsville Experienced Co-Ed League

Week 4 of the league featured a pair of hat tricks from former Huntsville High School teammates Rowan Simpson (playing on the Green Team) and Zach Caplan (Red Team).

In the end, the Reds edged the Greens 5-4 as Leigh Cameron added the other two goals for Red.

In the other match-up, the White Team took down the Blue Team 3-1 with Wesley Karelsen scoring twice and Steve Paton adding the other for the winning side. Andre Ciriaco gave Blue their lone tally.

“Another great week of matchups and another week without any discipline incidents,” says league convenor Dave Caplan. “I’m really proud of how friendly, but competitive the league has been. Big thanks to all those involved for being awesome!”
