Muskoka Soccer Round-up: U15 Boys closing strong

It’s end-of-season tournament time for several Muskoka United Football Club (MUFC) teams.

On that note, three teams representing the club travelled to the Richmond Hill Challenge Cup tournament, which took place on September 13 and 14.

The U15 Boys were very pleased with their overall performance at the Challenge Cup.

They opened the tournament with a pair of solid victories, 3-0 over Dixie White and 6-1 over the North Toronto Nitros, they then dropped their final round-robin match 1-0 to SSE 90 (who eventually won the tournament).

MUFC faced the host team in the semi-finals on Sunday and despite a tremendous showing of determination and teamwork, they lost 2-1.

Overall, the coaching staff was pleased with the effort the boys showed. They’ll now get ready to compete in the Provincial Indoor Soccer League for the winter.

The U11 Girls also took part in the Challenge Cup, playing well, but dropping a couple of close matches in the festival portion of the event (U12 and younger teams). MUFC fell 1-0 to the host team and 2-0 to Stouffville.

The U12 Girls lost 1-0 to Toronto SC and tied Toronto High Park 0-0 at the Challenge Cup.

Huronia District Soccer League Results

The U14 Boys had a great week last week, picking up a pair of wins, as their season winds down through September. The boys have now won four of their last five games in Huronia District Soccer League (HDSL).

Aleksandr Dunaenko scored the lone goal, while Michael Timpano and Will Evans split the clean sheet in net, as MUFC edged Collingwood 1-0 at Gostick Park in Bracebridge.

Then, on September 11, Dunaenko had a double hat trick (six goals) in an 11-3 away win against North Simcoe. Daelan Kay, Deni Scott, Callum Merritt, and Owen MacKinnon added the other Muskoka goals.

The U14 Boys have two games left on the season, September 16 at Barrie and September 20 at South Simcoe.

Meanwhile, the U11 Girls wrapped up their HDSL season with a 0-0 draw on the road against Collingwood on September 8. Anna Innes got the shut out for Muskoka.

U17 Boys

The U17 Boys ended up with a 3-0 win over Kleinburg without ever kicking a ball. The Ontario Soccer I-Model C2 Division game scheduled for September 11 at Gostick Park was forfeited by the away team as they chose not to travel north.

Everyone on the MUFC side was disappointed that the boys didn’t get a chance to play their last match of the league season.

On a positive note, they’ll be competing at the Woodbridge Classic this coming weekend against Markham, Caledon, and the host team. The Muskoka boys have had good efforts this season against Markham and Caledon, while they have not yet had a chance to take on Woodbridge.

That’s it for this week! Stay tuned to the Doppler for weekly updates as the season winds down!
