It was a triumphant Sunday for Muskoka United Football Club’s (MUFC) U15 Girls, who played up a year in the U16 division, as they captured the Huronia District Soccer League (HDSL) Cup!
The cup competition, which runs alongside the league campaign, saw MUFC take on Collingwood in the final at Henderson Park in Bradford.
Muskoka U15 star Andi Stevenson scored twice, while Claire Nicholson added the other in the win.
The team that won the final included Stevenson, Nicholson, Meghan McKay, Aliyah Loranger, Esperanza Coulso, Violet Perera, Lucy Guy, Fiona Wilson, Jovie Moore, Olivea O’Halloran, Cora Richardson, Oakley Collis, Sylver Inch, Sarah McKay, Liliana Henderson.
Missing from the final match, but players who have contributed throughout the year were Leila Hurrell, Gabby Verheye, and Esperanza Coulson. As well, sisters Maddie and Claire Allison occasionally join the team’s league matches but did not play in the final.
The team is coached by Mark O’Dell and Chris Richardson.
“The trophy was earned by a full team effort from our keeper, Oakley, who is a phenomenal backstop to our captains, Andy, Jovi, and Fiona, all able to help on the scoreboard or deny goals. Everybody was asked to bring their intensity and it started at the first whistle and continued until the very last, which was great to see from a one nothing lead at halftime at growing to two nothing then once they had scored to make it two to one we right away, turned around and made it three to one with a great pass from Violet Pereira to Claire,” said O’Dell.
“This is my third year coaching the team, and each year they’re growing into wonderful soccer players and young ladies on and off the field. We win with grace, we lose with grace, but it was nice to see them with full excitement when they were able to hoist the cup,” he added.
