On March 18, at about 10 pm, North Bay police officers responded to several reports of a vehicle that had struck a guardrail and gone down an embankment on Highway 11 in East Ferris.
Officers located the driver and determined that alcohol had been consumed. A roadside demand was made for the Approved Screening Device (ASD), and the driver registered an “Alert.”
As a result, a 29-year-old Bracebridge resident received an immediate seven-day warning range licence suspension and was charged with Careless Driving. No serious injuries were reported.
Warn range readings pose a safety risk, and Ontario imposes strict roadside penalties. Current Warn Range Penalties:
First occurrence:
• 7-day licence suspension
• Mandatory 8-hour education course
• $250 penalty
Second occurrence (within 10 years):
• 14-day suspension
• 16-hour treatment program
• $350 penalty
Third occurrence (within 10 years):
• 30-day suspension
• 16-hour treatment program
• 6-month Ignition Interlock condition
• $450 penalty
A licence reinstatement fee applies after every suspension. Drivers are reminded that no amount of alcohol or drugs in your system is safe when driving.
