MUSAC team places third at regional championships

They are a small team but they are mighty.

Twenty-eight swimmers from the Muskoka Aquatic Club (MUSAC) attended the Jeno Tihanyi Regional Championship meet in Sudbury from June 1-3, 2018. The results were outstanding for Muskoka. “I am proud to announce that our small club placed third overall out of two regions and 27 attending teams. We placed just behind Sudbury and Barrie,” said Coach Morgan Kierstead.

MUSAC has many fast and dedicated swimmers. Medals and ribbons were celebrated by all members with the MUSAC boys placing second overall—just behind Sudbury—with their earned points. “This is the highest placing MUSAC has ever had at this competition,” added Kierstead.

Highlights from the Regional Championships were as follows:

  • Congratulations to both the Girls and Boys relay teams who broke the 4 x 100 Relay club records! The 11/12 Girls relay team is comprised of Mia Pitts, Dale Graham, Hayley Oke, Georgina Henderson, and Sydney Freeman. The members of the 11/12 Boys relay team are Daniel Parry, Ben Guerriero, Sam Rix, and Aidan Spiers.
  • Aidan Spiers also qualified for the 13-year-old Festivals in 100M Fly.
  • The high-point award winner runners up, all within five points or less of the trophy were: Daniel Parry (10 & under boys), James Mitchell (11-year-old boys), Aidan Spiers (12-year-old boys) and Owen Jibb (13-year-old boys).

“A huge thank you goes out to our dedicated and thoughtful coaches who took time away from their jobs and families to coach our athletes,” said Kierstead. “They cheered hard and provided the guidance for our swimmers to achieve their goals.”
