MUSAC swimmers post impressive results at provincial championships

MUSAC was represented by five athletes this past weekend at the Ontario Long Course Provincial Championships in Nepean and came home with four medals, new club records and several personal bests!

The event took place over four days, March 2-6, and brought together over 850 swimmers from across the province, representing 69 different clubs. MUSAC finished an impressive 28th, tied with London Aquatic Club in the rankings, thanks to performance from the following club members:

Mark Cox won two bronze medals in the 100m backstroke and 200m backstroke. He swam in six races in total and earned four national times, qualifying him for Canadian Age Group Nationals in Calgary this summer.

Samuel Kuntz came home with the silver in the 200m back. He just missed the qualifying time in 100m fly for age group Nationals. He obtained club records in 200m fly, 100m back and 200m back.

Ally Goldring claimed the bronze in the 100m breaststroke. She qualified for age group Nationals in 200m IM by dropping a huge amount of time – 12 seconds off!

Andrew Markham went a best time in 200m breaststroke and matched his placing coming in 13th. His 100m breaststroke in the 4x100m medley relay was a best time by over two seconds.

Nathan Stafford matched his best time in 50m freestyle placing 16th, and placed 12th in 200m backstroke. Both of his relay splits were lifetime best times.

Having four male swimmers qualify for Provincials also meant the club was able to enter a relay team in the boys 16-17 years age division. Club relay records were broken in the 4x50m medley (dropped three seconds) and 4x100m medley (dropped nearly six seconds). In the 4x50m medley relay they placed 12th out of 25!

Coach Morgan was proud of the swimmers and their accomplishments. There’s a break in the meet schedule now until early April, giving the swimmers time to train hard again before their next major meet: Division II Team Championships in Brantford.
