MUSAC at 2017 Age Group Internationals

MUSAC swimmers have solid showing at 2017 Age Group International

The Muskoka Aquatic Club (MUSAC) competed in the 2017 Age Group International swim meet on June 1-4, 2017 in Etobicoke. The team brought twelve swimmers to the meet, four in the 15 and over sessions and eight in the 14 and under.

On Saturday June 2, the 15 and over swimmers kicked off the day with the 14 and unders swimming in the afternoon. The first MUSAC medal of the weekend was earned by Owen Jibb, with a Bronze medal for the 100M breaststroke.

Ethan Thomas swam the 200M Fly and qualified for the AA Champs and Allyson Goldring, Samuel Kuntz, Daniel Ortiz, and Mark Cox all made it into the finals for the first day of competition.

Mark Cox won the Silver medal in the 50M Backstroke and set a new club record, and earned fifth in the 200M Freestyle swim.

Allyson Goldring won the Silver medal in the 100M Breaststroke and set a new club record, and earned fifth in the 200 IM.

Both Daniel Ortiz and Samuel Kuntz won their B Finals swim, achieving personal best times.

The morning of Sunday, June 3, saw more MUSAC swimmers achieving best times. Lauren Thomas had three out of three best times. Samuel Kuntz qualified for the A Final going in fifth for the 200M Backstroke. Mitchell Cox qualified for the B Finals going in ninth for the 200M Backstroke. Andrew Markham had a huge best time in the 50M Breaststroke.

The afternoon swimmers were also successful for MUSAC with Owen Jibb achieving all best times in his events, a sixth in the 50M Breaststroke and also making a new club record. Catrice Black had two best times and Branwyn Shaw placed eighth in the 200M Backstroke.

In the June 3 finals, Samuel Kuntz placed sixth in the 200M Backstroke. Ally placed seventh in the 50M Freestyle and took home the Bronze medal for the 50M Breaststroke. Mark Cox came sixth in the 100M Fly, and earned a Silver medal in the 200M Backstroke and a Bronze medal in the 50M Freestyle.

The third and final day of the meet had Lauren earning another best time in the 50M Fly and going into the B Finals as the fifth in the 100M Backstroke. Samuel made it into the A Finals third for the 100M Backstroke and 16th for the 50 Fly B Final. Mitch was the second alternate into the B Finals for the 100 Freestyle and Branwyn placed 10th in the 100M Backstroke. Catrice had best times in her 100M Backstroke event as well as in the 50M Fly. Ethan earned a best time in the 50M Fly and Daniel was eighth in the A Finals for the 100M Freestyle. Allyson was third in the A Finals for the 200M Breaststroke. Mark placed first in the 100M Backstroke for the A Finals, third in the A Finals for the 100M Freestyle and sixth in the A Finals for the 50M Fly.

In the June 4 finals, Mitch placed seventh in the 100M Backstroke and 15th in the 100M Freestyle. Allyson placed 10th in the 100M Freestyle and brought home a Bronze medal in the 200M Breaststroke. Samuel took home the Silver medal in 100M Backstroke and seventh place in the 50M Fly. Mark earned the Silver medal for the 100M Backstroke, fourth in the 100M Freestyle and eighth in the 50M Fly. Daniel placed 8th in the 100M Freestyle.
