The Muskoka Aquatic Club (MUSAC) travelled to the Orangeville Winter Q Meet on January 22. The one-day meet was open to all Novice Two, Junior and Senior swimmers with each swimmer racing in three individual events and one relay.
“Everyone swam really well and we had a ton of best times,” said Coach Morgan. Swimmers Hayley Oke, Jasper Varieur, Daniel Parry and Neil Duncan all qualified for the Huronia Regional Champsionships at this meet, bringing MUSAC’s qualifiers to 52 swimmers – higher than it has ever been!
The top results were as follows:
Female 10 and under
- Mary Jibb placed first in all three of her events: 100 IM, an event that encompasses all four swimming strokes including Butterfly, Backstroke, Breaststroke and Freestyle; 200m Back Stroke and 100m Breast Stroke.
- Hayley Oke placed first in the 50m Back Stroke and second in the 100m Back Stroke, 100m Freestyle and Mixed 50m Back Stroke.
- Georgina Henderson place first in the 200m Freestyle race.
- Cassis Adair placed fourth in the 100m Back Stroke and 100m Freestyle
- Sydney Freeman placed fifth in the 50m Back Stroke
Male 10 and under
- Neil Duncan placed first in the 100 IM, second in the 50m Freestyle and third in both the 50m and 200m Freestyle
- Tyler Gevaert placed sixth in the 200m Freestyle
- Andrew Guerriero placed fourth in the 50m Freestyle and fifth in the 100m Freestyle
- Harrison Jones placed second in the 100m Freestyle and fourth in the 100m IM
- Aaron MacDonald placed fifth in the 200m Freestyle
- Daniel Parry placed first in the 100m Freestyle and 50m Back Stroke, and then placed third in the 50m Freestyle and Back Stroke
- Kellan Shaw placed first in the 400m Freestyle and second in the 200m Freestyle
- James Mitchell placed fourth in the 100m Freestyle
Female 11 to 12 years old
- Catrice Black placed first in both 100m Back Stroke and 200m Freestyle and second in the 100m Freestyle
- Arden Leadston placed second in the 200m Breast Stroke
- Charlotte Richardson placed fourth in the 100m Freestyle and fifth in the 100m Back Stroke
- Branwyn Shaw placed first in all three of her events (50m and 100m Freestyle, 200m Fly)
Male 11 to 12 years old
- Benjamin Guerriero placed first in the 100m Breast Stroke, second in the 100m Freestyle and third in the 100m Back Stroke
- Owen Jibb placed first in all three of his events (800m Freestyle, 50m Breast Stroke and 200m Fly)
- Cameron MacConnell-Garson placed fourth in the 800m Freestyle
Female 13 to 14 years old
- Kaylee Kelly placed third in the 400m Freestyle
Male 13 to 14 years old
- Ethan Coles placed first in the 100m Fly and third in the 200m IM
- Daniel Ortiz placed first in all three of his events (400m Freestyle and IM, 100m Breast Stroke)
- Jasper Varieur placed third in all four of his events (200m Breast Stroke, 50m Freestyle, 100m Breast Stroke, 200m Freestyle)
Female 15 and Over
- Grayson Burrows placed first in the 100 IM and fifth in both the 100m Freestyle and Breast Stroke
This was the last meet for swimmers to qualify for the Short Course Regionals which will be hosted in Barrie February 3-5 at the East Bayfield Pool. Swimmers will race the events they are qualified in as well as eligible bonus events. Good luck to all qualifiers!
