Three Muskoka Aquatic Club (MUSAC) swimmers – Allyson Goldring, Mark Cox, and Caroline Lewitt – qualified for the Regional Speedo Eastern Canadian Championships held April 20-23, 2017 in Etobicoke.
This regional meet is an annual long-course competition which brings a variety of senior, youth and junior swimmers from across Canada to experience high-calibre racing and skill development. This high-level meet was unique in that the qualifying swimmers raced against swimmers from more than just their age group, which saw them competing against 15- or 16-year-olds while only being 14 years of age.
That challenge did not stop the three MUSAC swimmers from being successful in their races. Allyson, Mark and Caroline all swam personal best times and made the B finals (ninth to 16th place finishes).
Allyson Goldring set a new club record and placed sixth in the B finals for the 200m Breaststroke.
Mark Cox competed in the 200m Backstroke finals and placed sixth with a new best time and a club record.
Caroline Lewitt also competed in the 200m Backstroke finals and placed eighth in the B finals with a personal best time.
This experience for the local swimmers was an excellent reminder to all that it’s not always about the medals. When these athletes reach this elite level, each and every second or even hundredth of a second that a swimmer shaves off their personal best time is an accomplishment.
Congratulations to all three of the MUSAC swimmers on the tremendous effort put forth at this meet!
