The Hawks first game was on Friday, June 30 and they beat the Kitchener Waterloo Braves 11-4. On Saturday, July 1 the Hawks won against Whitby 1, 9-1 and then in afternoon the team came back from a 4-1 score from Centre Wellington and pulled off another win 6-5.

The semi-finals were on Sunday, July 2, where Huntsville met Six Nations and took the win by one goal 7-6 in the last minute of play, securing their place in the finals.

In the championship game the Hawks were against Halton Hills whose team is currently ranked number two in all of Ontario for the Tyke level. The Hawks gave it their all and played hard straight in to overtime but lost by one, 7-6. The Huntsville Tyke Hawks should be proud that they were neck and neck competing with a centre so large and could represent our small town in a big way!

The Huntsville Hawks also hosted their first weekend of the Jack Bionda Shootout for the C/D Divisions for Novice and Midget teams from all over Ontario. In total, there were eight Novice teams and four Midget teams. These Shootout tournaments are held to raise money for the Minor Lacrosse Association to cover additional costs and keep seasonal registrations low.

The Moller Insurance Novice team went undefeated during the Round Robin, defeating Brantford, Northumberland and Kitchener/Waterloo 2, with Cohen Carlson scoring with a penalty shot to advance the team into the semifinals. On Sunday morning, Huntsville versed Innisfil as the game went to sudden death overtime and the Hawks were able to score with under a minute left to win 5-4. The Huntsville Novice entered the championship game in the afternoon to face St. Catherines. It was a close game but the Hawks lost 5-3 to take Silver.

Coach Joe O’Halloran described the weekend as an amazing experience as the team went in with little to no expectations and had an exceptional team character weekend as everyone got to play. There was great goal tending by Lincoln Lawrence and Jaxon Crowder with the MVP going to Cohen Carlson. Great effort boys!

The Moose Delaney’s Midgets also competed in the Huntsville Shootout tournament and were able to beat Orangeville 2, Arthur and Innisfil to advance to the championship game on Sunday, July 2 facing Orangeville 2 for the second time. The Midget Hawks had won by a crushing score of 6-1 on the Saturday but Orangeville definitely put up a fight for the gold. The Hawks held their lead and the Gold was theirs to win with a score of 7-4. The weekend’s success was due to the sensational goaltending by Tyler Oneil and a solid effort by each Hawk player said Coach James Allen. “These boys deserve all of the credit for their success. They continue to represent themselves and their community in a very positive way.” The MVP for the weekend was Matt Allen. Congrats Midget Hawks!
