Pump up your tires and grab your helmet to join Mayor Scott Aitchison for the 3rd Annual Mayor’s Bike Ride, taking place on Thursday, June 8, 2017 at 6:30pm at River Mill Park.
Led by experienced cyclists, the 12-kilometre social bike ride is a wonderful opportunity to give cycling a try. The ride is mostly flat (there are a few hills!) and is manageable for cyclists who can ride comfortably for an hour.
Mayor Aitchison, the Town’s Sustainable Huntsville program and local sport therapy experts at The SportLab are championing the Mayor’s Bike Ride to promote cycling for recreation, transportation, exercise and tourism.
“The SportLab is committed to providing leadership to those in Huntsville who are committed to adopting and maintaining healthy life choices. The Mayor’s Bike Ride is an excellent opportunity to experience a variety of neighbourhoods in the community, while encouraging fitness in a relaxed environment,” said Dr. Lowell Greib of The SportLab.
There are many benefits of riding your bike as part of your regular exercise routine, including:
- Health: reduces the risk of heart disease, diabetes, and obesity
- Money: Saves on fuel and maintenance by riding your bike
- Environment: reduce your carbon footprint by taking short trips by bike
