Huntsville Legion Branch 232 members were before Huntsville council on October 26 to present councillors with a poppy and to remind them of the Poppy Campaign, which officially kicked-off on Friday, October 30, this year.
Proceeds from the campaign help support serving and former Canadian Armed Forces personnel and their families by providing them with things like medical care and equipment, essential home repairs and help with food, heating costs, clothing, emergency shelter and education, among other services. A portion of the poppy fund is also allocated to promote Remembrance Day and the sacrifices made by Canada’s veterans.
Huntsville Mayor Scott Aitchison thanked legion members and presented them with a cheque for $250 for a wreath, commemorating veterans, which will be presented on behalf of the Town of Huntsville during Remembrance Day ceremonies at Huntsville’s cenotaph on November 11, 2015.
