This brick building on the Main Street of Huntsville, located beside Town Hall, which today houses Trinity United Church, was built in 1897 for $6,500 by George Hutcheson. The minister at that time was Rev. Joseph Wilson.
On June 10, 1925, a significant union took place between the Methodist Church, the Congregational Union of Canada, a small number of local Union churches from western Canada, and approximately two-thirds of the Presbyterian Church in Canada. They united to form the United Church of Canada.
The remaining one-third of the Presbyterian Church voted against the union and chose to remain separate, as it remains today.
The idea behind the union was that not only did they share theological beliefs and a desire for Christian unity, but efficiencies were sought to serve sparsely populated areas, thereby reducing the duplication of services such as schools and missions.
