The patient and family perspective has never been more important or influential in health care than it is today. Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare (MAHC) is building on the philosophy of centering care around patients and their families and is seeking applicants for a volunteer-based Patient and Family Advisory Committee.
MAHC hopes to recruit a total of 10 volunteer advisors: five from north Muskoka and five from south Muskoka.
A Patient and Family Advisory Committee is an opportunity for patients and family members to collaborate with MAHC as partners in planning services and systems to shape and improve the patient experience. The committee is a venue for patients and families to provide input into policy and program development, while promoting partnerships and fostering cooperation.
“It is only when we see health care through the eyes of patients and their families that we can truly improve their experience,” says Karen Fleming, Chief Quality & Nursing Executive. “We are looking for people who have had a recent experience either as a patient or as a family member of a patient who received care at MAHC. The input they can provide from their own perspective is so valuable to improving care and the overall patient experience.”
