MAHC receives just over $1 million in additional base funding

The North Simcoe Muskoka Local Health Integration Network (NSM LHIN) is pleased to announce that our five acute care hospital organizations have received an increase in base budget funding beginning in 2016-2017. Base funding is an annual addition made to an organization’s budget and does not include any one-time funding received during the year.

Improving access to hospital services is part of the government’s plan to build a better Ontario through its Patients First: Action Plan for Health Care, which provides patients with faster access to the right care; better home and community care; the information they need to live healthy; and a health care system that is sustainable for generations to come.

The intent of the North Simcoe Muskoka funding is to:

• address capacity and access challenges in hospitals experiencing unprecedented volume growth and Alternate Level of Care (ALC) challenges;
• maintain existing services in medium-sized hospitals; and
• support the continued provision of services, such as hip and knee replacements.

North Simcoe Muskoka hospitals have seen their base budgets increased by the following amounts:

Collingwood General & Marine Hospital – $531,500
Georgian Bay General Hospital – $961,400
Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare – $1,075,800
Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital – $311,900
Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre – $1,283,500

QUICK FACTS

• May 2016 saw the first time in 2 years that the NSM LHIN’s Alternate Level of Care (ALC) rate was better than the provincial ALC rate (14.1% vs 14.4%).
• The additional base funding investment in our North Simcoe Muskoka hospitals will enhance patients’ access to the procedures they need.
