Reel Alternatives Huntsville wants to share the love of movies with the local community year-round. That’s why it’s been an annual tradition for this non-profit group to contribute toward the DVD collections at the Huntsville Public Library and Lake of Bays Public Library branches in Baysville and Dwight.
At their screening of Hamnet this week, Reel Alternatives president Laura Kennedy (centre) presented David Tremblay, CEO of the Huntsville Public Library, with a cheque for $750, while Cathy Fairbairn, CEO of the Lake of Bays Public Library, accepted a $500 donation for each branch in Baysville and Dwight.
The library collections include films shown by Reel Alternatives, which are identified by a special sticker, and also feature a wide variety of current, classic, and children’s movies. (The Reel Alternatives-screened films are even searchable as a separate collection on the HPL website.) The donated funds can also be used to support the Kanopy library streaming service that offers free online movies, TV shows, documentaries, kids’ programs, and educational films for even more impact.
