On October 11, students at Pine Glen Public School got a lesson of a different sort, and a timely one with the sticky-sweet treats of Hallowe’en just around the corner.
Local dental hygienist, Dezarae Aldridge-Earl along with students in Georgian College’s Dental Assisting program volunteered their time to educate students on importance of oral health.
“Part of my mission is improving the lives of others and I wanted to give back to the Huntsville community,” said Aldridge-Earl. “So, I thought, what better way than to educate and promote oral health and wellness to our school-aged children.”
Aldridge-Earl shared the message with the school’s kindergarten classes while the dental assisting students developed group presentations to take to the classrooms. Each student took home a new toothbrush. “I’m grateful for the contribution of the dental assisting students, making the day successful! All the students at Pine Glen Public School learned so much.”
“Nevi” a friendly-looking, stuffed dental tool even made a stop at the school during its cross-Canada trip to promote improved oral health and wellness.
“I believe with the proper tools and knowledge together we can help prevent tooth decay in children,” said Aldridge-Earl, adding that she hopes to make this an annual event, rotating through each of Huntsville’s schools to promote oral health and wellness.
