Local Company Gaining National Recognition

Rugged Earth Landscaping Inc., established and operating in Huntsville, has received the Intrigue Media Award for Landscape Design at the prestigious 2025 National Awards for Landscaping Excellence.

The Canadian Nursery Landscape Association (CNLA) will honour 15 of the most distinguished landscaping projects, submitted from nationwide provincial landscaping associations, at the 22nd Annual National Awards Gala, in Regina, Saskatchewan, on August 12, 2025. Considered one of the premier awards events in the horticultural industry, the National Awards for Landscaping Excellence (NALE) marks a significant milestone for Rugged Earth Landscaping in its steady ascent to becoming a superlative provider of landscaping services in Muskoka, Georgian Bay, and North Simcoe.

Sean Christie, President and founder of Rugged Earth, added perspective to the magnitude of their project’s successful selection as one of three finalists awarded in their category, noting that his company had been chosen from submissions across Canada. Rugged Earth was also presented with the 2024 Landscape Ontario Award of Excellence for the ‘Agora’ commission, which led to their inclusion in the nationwide search for highest achievement.

Rugged Earth Inc. has purposely mapped a path toward exceptional service since its 2015 inception. The company has organically evolved from a lawn care and maintenance provider to an innovative landscape design and construction company, offering expertise from concept to completion in basic landscaping to complex and intricately engineered undertakings. They possess additional proficiency in design and construction for lighting, horticultural care, as well as standard lawn and garden care. Their goal is to transform a client’s outdoor property into a vibrant natural space that welcomes family and friends to cherish, gather, and enjoy entertainment, dining, relaxation, and recreational activities.

Seven core values underscore Rugged Earth’s mounting success: communication, continuous learning, land stewardship, adapting best practices, dedicated hiring principals and team building, but above all, it is their innate ability to visualize and conceive resourceful, pragmatic solutions to make a client’s dream a reality, that differentiates them from competitors.

The company’s dedication to fully understanding the needs of customers begins with mindful, relaxed discussions designed to uncover the project’s intent. Every landscape has its peculiarities, and every patron has their own relationship with their property. The ability to translate these elements into concrete design applications is at the heart of Rugged Earth’s drive to construct memorable, lasting property enhancements.

Jazmine Flannery, Head of Design, responds to customer input with creative impetus and produces drawings that illustrate the scope and layout of the proposal. Applying years of experience, knowledge, and creativity, these drawings are meant to convey the actual “feel” or “atmosphere” that the final project could have. This is accomplished through several conceptual dynamics including the property’s existing attributes and topography, proposed uses, and surrounding elements.

Christie also applies his keen sense of working the design from the inside out, considering its various uses—outdoor dining, play, and communal activities —combined with an intrinsic respect and appreciation for land stewardship, and enhancing and coordinating the practical use of natural ecosystems with core environmental beliefs. You can find their Facebook page HERE.

This ability to create beautiful outdoor spaces that uniquely align with the specific needs of a client and the natural components of the terrain is the reason Rugged Earth has been recognized with the Intrigue Media Award for Landscape Design 2025.

Rugged Earth will work with clients on design and budgetary considerations, and once approved, the design and construction become the priority. Rugged Earth Landscaping has one goal: to create soul-inspiring landscapes that make our clients want to get outside! Since 2015, we have designed balanced, family-focused, and lifestyle-oriented landscapes that demand to be experienced,” notes Christie.

Rugged Earth holds six Ontario Awards of Excellence & 1 Top Award in 2025 Horst Dickert Memorial. This award recognizes the best use of native plant material, well-integrated into a designed or implemented sustainable landscape. The winner is selected from construction, maintenance, or design project submissions.

In 2023, Christie was also honoured with a Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award in all of Ontario. His company is also featured on the Paramount+ television show, ‘Colin & Justin Sub-Zero Reno’. https://youtu.be/ClmzBHQ9Itw?si=vVgy6GpyZUmmDMmV

The 2025 National Awards for Landscaping Excellence firmly establish Rugged Earth as a prominent company with a vision and a company culture that meets the demands of the future.
