In a statement posted on his Facebook page on April 29, Lake of Bays Mayor Terry Glover said he won’t be seeking reelection in the upcoming October 2026 municipal election.
“I wanted to make a special statement today. I wanted to do it here online so no one could say I told somebody before I told someone else,” said Glover in a video message. “I first want to say it’s been a real honour to serve as your mayor for seven and a half years. I served eight years as a ward councillor and seven and a half as your mayor and on the District of Muskoka.”
Glover said he made the job of mayor a full-time position and joined every board, “and community” possible. “I always said to my wife, ‘Go for it. If you’re going to do something, do it right,’ and I’m extremely proud of my record and our accomplishments.”
He said during the time served, he built “wonderful relationships with politicians, residents, cottage associations, businesses and of course, my Indigenous friends.”
Glover said after discussions with his wife and family, he decided not to seek reelection in the 2026 municipal election.
“I won’t be seeing reelection because it’s time to open up the doors to fresh new ideas and start an exciting new chapter in Lake of Bays. I want to thank everybody for their support, and I especially want to thank the people that really reached out and gave me support when I needed it the most. It’s been a very, very colourful time in my life. It’s been a wonderful growth opportunity. I can’t say enough about the experience,” said Glover who signed off with: “So thank you all for listening to my statement today. Have yourself a wonderful day. Take care of yourself. Take care of each other. Bye for now.”
The longest-serving councillor in Lake of Bays, Nancy Tapley, responded to his post, saying she has served under four different mayors. “You were the best.”
