Dehumidifier identified as possible cause of fire in Lake of Bays

The weekend did not start well for the owners of a residence on Buck Island Road, but they’re likely still counting their blessings.
The Huntsville/Lake of Bays Fire Department was called to a reported structure fire in a garage on ‎Buck Island Rd. in the Township of Lake of Bays shortly after 1p.m. on Friday, Aug. 26, 2016. Upon arrival, crews encountered light smoke coming from the structure and were able to quickly extinguish the fire inside.Because the fire had spread into the roof area, crews remained on scene until they were sure that the fire was in fact out and did not spread further.
A dehumidifier is being looked at as a possible cause for the fire and damage is estimated at $12,000. ‎There were no injuries reported. According to Huntsville/Lake of Bays Fire Inspector Mike Vadlja, the dehumidifier was used to keep the moisture out of the garage which was used as a woodworking shop.
