Lake of Bays Council raises councillor remuneration effective next term

At its November 11 meeting, Lake of Bays Council voted in favour of a bylaw that will implement an increase in remuneration for the positions of deputy mayor and councillor.

Effective November 15, 2026, remuneration for the council of the Township of Lake of Bays will be as follows:

  • Mayor: $55,540.21 per year.
  • Deputy Mayor: $32,782 per year from $28,694.91 (an increase of 10.39%).
  • Councillor: $28,253 per year from $25,608.40 (an increase of 11.34%).

The increases will bring the positions to the 60th percentile of the comparator group, comprised of the municipalities of Algonquin Highlands, Gravenhurst, Muskoka Lakes, Bracebridge, Huntsville, Penetanguishene, Georgian Bay, Wasaga Beach, and Sequin.

According to a staff report released last month, “The Mayor’s remuneration is currently 8.86% over the average salary of the comparator group and aligns with the 60th percentile.”

The bylaw passed on Nov. 11, 2025, also includes benefits. You can find it HERE and staff’s October report HERE.
