A late-night crime spree that saw masked robberies, threats of violence and thousands of dollars in stolen cash has landed a Gravenhurst man behind bars for 30 months.
Jakob Kramer, 25, of Gravenhurst pleaded guilty recently in a Bracebridge courtroom to three counts of robbery and one count of theft under $5,000 following a series of incidents investigated by the Ontario Provincial Police in August and September 2024.
Court heard the first robbery unfolded just after dawn at 5:10 a.m. on Aug. 24 at the Ultramar on Highway 11. Wearing all black with his face covered, Kramer entered the store armed with a large knife featuring an eight-inch blade. He demanded cash and cigarettes before fleeing on foot with about $250 and stolen tobacco products.
Just over a week later, at 2:30 a.m. on Sept. 1, a break-and-enter was reported at the One Stop on Kahshe Lake Road. About 50 packs of cigarettes and $2,000 in cash were stolen.
The violence escalated on Sept. 10 at the Petro‑Canada. A masked man stormed inside, demanded money and claimed he had a firearm. He threatened to shoot the lone employee and knocked a phone from her hand. The suspect fled empty-handed.
Just before midnight on Sept. 12, the One Stop on Kahshe Lake Road was targeted again. The suspect demanded cash and escaped with about $800.
Police eventually received a tip from the public that led investigators to a suspect vehicle and clothing believed to be linked to the crimes. Kramer was arrested soon after.
