‘Judo Jeff’ Allen continues to impress

Jeff Allen brought home yet another heavyweight gold medal for Huntsville while participating at the recent International Judo Open in Québec.

Winning matches by submission, throws, and injury to opponent, Allen utilized a variety of techniques to win his matches. With over 1,200 people involved, and up to eight fights a day, the event was one of Canada’s busiest and foremost judo competitions.

While it started out as an interesting sport to try with his son, Lucas, judo quickly became more of a lifestyle for the two, and they have spent much of their time travelling all over the world to different competitions.

“The daily training, the travelling, and the classes consume all of my free time,” said Allen. “I can’t complain though, especially when I’m fighting against opponents almost double my size.”

Allen hopes to continue working towards the World Master Judo Championship (which he placed bronze in last year), and is thankful for the friends, family, and sponsors who have supported him in his endeavors. Allen also encourages people to swing by the local judo club, as people of all ages and backgrounds can get started.

“Everyone at the club takes the friendly approach to the sport, and discipline combined with respect are the main pillars on which judo is built, so anyone can come check it out,” Allen enthused.
