The Huntsville Jr. C Otters finished their weekend with mixed results, but maintained their hold on second place in the GBMOJCHL standings with a four-point lead over the Midland Flyers.
The weekend began with a 4-1 win on the road over the Penetang Kings Friday night. Andy Baker opened the scoring with his 20th goal, and would later add an assist for his league-leading 46th point in just 24 games this season. In the second period, Nathan Zantingh found the back of the net for the Otters on the powerplay to push the lead to 2-0, while Myles York and Curtis Ballantyne piled on insurance goals in the third to make it a four-goal game. Backup netminder Jamie Gee made 32 saves and was perfect through nearly 59 minutes, until Penetang’s Caleb Stephens broke up his bid for the shutout with just 1:18 remaining.
The Otters returned home on Sunday to take on the first-place Alliston Hornets, who boast a staggering 22-2-1 record and +89 goal differential and lead the GBMOJCHL by 14 points. With Gee once again getting the nod in net, it was Nick Arcan getting things started for the Hornets, who jumped out to a three-goal lead on 18 shots in the first period.
Sam King responded for the Otters just 20 seconds into the middle frame, scoring his seventh of the year from Tyler Kalbe and Miles York to cut the lead to 3-1, but that’s as close as the Otters would get. Alliston would go on to score four unanswered in the period for a 7-1 final as the Otters failed to gain any ground on the Hornets in the standings.
The Otters welcome the Stayner Siskins to the Canada Summit Centre this Friday at 8:00 pm, before going on the road to take on the Erin Shamrocks on Sunday at 2:00 pm.
