It’s time to sign up for Arrowhead Nordic Ski Club programs

Winter is coming… There’s no avoiding it, so why not embrace it?

Arrowhead Nordic Ski Club will get you outdoors and enjoying the snow this winter. Whatever the stage of winter denial you may be in, the time is ripe for planning to beat the winter blues by getting involved in cross-country skiing. With the new park facilities at Arrowhead and a much-improved park traffic situation, the 2019 season is primed for success.

Arrowhead Nordic Ski Club offers programs for all ages and levels of Nordic skiers. Whether you’re four or 94, there are some great opportunities to get outside, get fit, and have fun while cross-country skiing.

Kids from ages four to 13 can attend ski lessons at their level. These include BunnyRabbits (age 4&5), JackRabbits (6-10), Track Attack (9-13) and Lynx (10+ that are new to skiing). By age 11, athletes that are interested in competitive skiing may join the Arrowhead Racing Centre (ARC) and participate in loppets and races. The ARC program runs year-round, and although fall sessions have already started, it’s not too late to join for that essential off-season training.

Programs are not only for kids. Adult beginners can start with a two-hour group lesson or arrange a private lesson by contacting the club. Ski for Fitness is a four-week program designed for adults who want a friendly, non-competitive class where they can work on their fitness and ski technique. Those wishing to take their skiing and fitness to the next level can join the Masters Training Group. As with ARC, this program runs year-round with dryland training in the off-season, and participation in loppets and races on snow. The 10-week dryland session starts September 22. Sign up online at arrowheadnordic.ca.

Registration for any of the above programs automatically enrolls you as a member of Arrowhead Nordic Ski Club. If you’d rather not participate in a program, you can still register for a club membership. Members get to participate in club-sponsored social events such as the Tuesday Night Skis and Full Moon Skis which run after park closing. They can also take advantage of member prices for loppet registration and discounts at local sports stores. To sign up in person, head to the Ski Swap (details below) in Arrowhead Provincial Park. To sign up online, go to arrowheadnordic.ca.

Mark the date! The 2018 Ski Swap and Sign-up Day is on Sunday, October 14th in Arrowhead Provincial Park. If you have Nordic ski equipment to sell, please drop it off at Algonquin Outfitters before October 13 (Thursday, Friday or Saturday are best). Come on out to the Ski Swap and Signup Day on the 14th to take advantage of the great deals, and to register for winter programs.
