It’s official: Canadians will head to the polls on Monday, April 28

Prime Minister Mark Carney asked Governor General Mary Simon today to dissolve Parliament. Canadians will head to the polls on April 28 to vote for the next Prime Minister of Canada.

The announcement comes a day before Members of Parliament were scheduled to return to Parliament, which has been prorogued since Jan. 6.

The 36-day election campaign kicks off barely a week after Carney was sworn in as prime minister and appointed his cabinet.

So far, in the riding of Parry Sound-Muskoka, Scott Aitchison will run for the Conservative Party of Canada under leader Pierre Poilievre. Geordie Sabbagh recently announced his candidacy and will be running for the Liberal Party of Canada under leader Mark Carney.
