Irwin Memorial Public School students and staff in Dwight raised $1700 for the Terry Fox Foundation last year, an increase of 400 per cent from the previous year. Principal Sharon Stahls is retiring at the end of this school year and this will be the last school Terry Fox fundraiser she organizes.
“Cancer has touched my family, friends, colleagues and students that I have been involved with through my 34 years in education,” said Stahls. “It has been a privilege to share with students Terry’s story and the characteristics that he demonstrated as he ran across Canada. As an incentive for the students, I am willing to receive a buzz cut when we raise $3000. Bring on the shears!”
As of today, IMPS has raised $1425 through online donations putting them almost half way to their goal before cash pledges donated by students are counted. Stahls estimates the total amount raised as of today is $2100.
If they are successful in reaching their $3000 goal, Stahls will have her head shaved at a student assembly in October.
