We humans are complex beings. When it comes to caring for our health and wellness, no single approach will fit everyone. That’s why an integrative approach to health care – one that supports your specific needs from every angle with practitioners focused on physical health, nutrition, recovery from injury and illness, and mental health – is an attractive option.
Often these various practitioners are spread across a wide area, making accessing them all efficiently a difficult task. But now, there is Alternis Functional Health Solutions.
“The medical community is starting to recognize the benefits of this paradigm shift from a strictly Western medical model to more of a functional approach that supports all aspects of health,” says Alison Dumont of Strive Holistic Nutrition. “People, especially with our aging population, are really starting to take responsibility for their health by advocating for themselves and asking ‘what more can I do?’ It’s empowering to make informed choices about what’s right for them.”
Communication is at the heart of the Alternis group, both with their clients and amongst each other.
We work hard to understand both our clients’ needs and how all of us can work together to enhance their care and ensure there are no gaps.

Meet the Alternis group
Good health begins with good nutrition. At Strive Holistic Nutrition, Alison Dumont, a registered holistic nutritionist separates the ‘shoulds’ from popular nutrition culture and focuses on your unique needs to help you take control of your health with confidence.
Whether your goals are nutrition-based or overall wellness, it can be hard to stay motivated and on track particularly during the colder, darker days of winter. That’s where a Health Coach can come in. Kelly Hammond, Certified Coach Practitioner (CCP) of Om Health and Wellness Coaching, has the motivation, education, experience and passion to help you overcome challenges that have been preventing you from reaching success on your journey to a healthier, happier you!
When injury and illness sideline your efforts, chiropractic care, massage therapy and movement correction therapy can help get you back on track.
At Back in Balance Chiropractic and Acupuncture Clinic, Dr. Tammy Bowler uses a combination of therapies and exercises to decrease pain, build strength and stability, and prevent future recurrences. Her approach is particularly effective for sport- or work-related overuse injuries, in addition to the typical back and neck pain treated by chiropractors.
You’ve heard of massage therapy, but do you know about osteopathy? It’s a manual therapy that treats physical disorders/ailments through the manipulation of bones, joints, muscles and soft tissues of the body. Denice Spykerman and Colleen Bush at Muskoka Osteopathy use hands-on techniques to restore muscular imbalances and maintain and support the natural relationships within your body.
Over time our body naturally starts to move incorrectly for a variety of reasons. Due to a complex connection between the cerebral and muscular structures, these incorrect movements compound and manifest as pain in seemingly random places. Kassandra Barker, owner of The Body Corrective, uses a science-based, hands-on approach to discover and eliminate the true source of pain so you can once again move free and easy.
No approach to wellness would be complete without addressing mental health. Perhaps your marriage or relationship needs attention, or depression, anxiety or an addiction is hampering your ability to enjoy life. A professional can help you see beyond your current state. Warren Broad takes a different approach than many traditional therapists do to change your negative thoughts, emotions, and behaviours into positives.
Staying grounded even when life takes you on a wild ride can feel like an impossible task. Focusing on a calmer, more connected way of being can help you navigate whatever life throws at you with clarity and grace. At the heart of the Alternis office is Muskoka Hot Yoga with Sandra O’Brien where ‘It’s more than a workout. It’s a lifestyle.’ It’s a sentiment that can be applied to the Alternis group as a whole.
Located in an office building in Huntsville’s Commerce Park at the junction of Highways 11 and 60, Alternis is convenient to access with ample parking.

I have been a patient of Dr. Tammy Bowler. I had been suffering from shoulder pain for almost 3 yrs., receiving physio, ,massage therapy, cortisone injections, none of these really helped. I decided to try chiropractic therapy and was lucky enough to have Tammy as my practitioner. After some sessions she realized I most likely had a rotator cuff tear. She sent me to a sports doctor who ordered an MRI which confirmed her diagnosis. I had very successful surgery in RVH. I am forever grateful to Tammy, in a few sessions she gave me my life back.
I have availed myself of several of the services offered by Alternis, and have been very satisfied by both the results and the professionalism of the practitioners. Without prejudice, however, I feel very strongly that Mr. Broad should include in his CV, the disclaimer: “is not intended to replace the services of a qualified psychiatrist”.
Personally, I required a psychiatrist, a psychotherapist, a psychologist, a psychometrist, and my family physician before I was allowed to visit a counsellor on a regular basis. Obviously, Mr. Broad is imminently qualified as the latter; but perhaps, should not be viewed as the avenue of first choice (dependent upon the severity of the perceived mental health disability).
