Men’s Fastball League

Huntsville’s Men’s Fastball League is small but dedicated

The Huntsville Men’s Fastball League is known to be a casual, fun and competitive adult league. The league meets every Tuesday night for games at 7:30 and 9:00. For the 2017 season, the league only had enough players to create three teams: Moose Delaney’s, Rolston’s Home Building and Broadleaf Construction. This means that one team a week has to play a double header.

Fastball is different than baseball. The ball used in the game of fastball is 12 inches in circumference, three inches larger than a baseball. The pitcher in baseball pitches the ball overhand but in fastball the pitcher whips the ball underhand.

Stan Rimmington is the president of the Huntsville Men’s Fastball League and has more than 30 years of baseball experience. He was inducted into Huntsville’s Sports Hall of Fame in 2015 and continues to dedicate himself to the game he loves. On Tuesday nights, you will see Stan getting the bases out on the diamond and, at times, staying to be an umpire for a game or two.

Rimmington started the Muskoka Classic, the league’s fastball tournament, always held on the second weekend of July. The 2017 Muskoka Classic took place in Huntsville on July 15-16, although the registration of travelling teams was lower than previous years due to other baseball commitments.

Thirteen teams took to the field during the weekend with each team playing three games. Players from each of Huntsville’s three league teams come together to form one team for the Muskoka Classic sponsored by Moose Delaney’s. Huntsville played well in their round robin games for their division with good pitching, but did not make it into the playoff rounds. The team did, however, keep a close score, losing 4-2, against an A Division team that went on to play in the finals. Way to go, Huntsville!

In the home games from Tuesday, July 18, Moose Delaney’s played against Rolston’s Home Building and won 7-2 and then played the double header against Broadleaf Construction to win again 7-3. Great ball play, team!

The Huntsville Men’s Fastball League aims to attract more players for next year’s season to create a fourth team. The league welcomes players from Huntsville, the Muskoka District and Parry Sound, 15 years and older.
