My car was stolen by a local youth year and a 1/2 ago… he’s 16 been offending since he was 12 and when the sentencing was to only happen in may they arrested him for breaking into a restaurant!!!!! They just keep adding to his charges and it all gets wrapped into 1 pkg….I think they should have 2 or 3 free passes with the youth act this kid is a terror in town! And has a criminal record with well over 20 charges… enough already
I agree, Bill. These young people will be technically adults in two or three years. They need to be held accountable for their actions. I’m not saying they should go to jail–I wouldn’t want to see them in a general prison population. But, at the very least, they are old enough to have their names listed in the newspaper. They have committed crime(s) and the public should be made aware of who they are.
I think the youth Justice system needs reform. This is another example of kids giving the whole of youth a bad name when they can do something like this and not be named. There is no shame or peer pressure and it becomes just a lark. There needs to be some responsibility before accountability sets in.This may seem like minor crime but by the time lawyers argue sentencing, these “poor kids” will not be paying with time like an adult. Some better form of “Do the adult crime, pay the adult time or penalty” and adult accountability needs to be developed.
