Huntsville Theatre Company stages The Wakowski Brothers in homage to Canada 150

The Wakowski Brothers is the latest in the Huntsville Theatre Company’s homage to Canada’s 150th birthday. Devoted to a season of Canadian-only productions, The Wakowski Brothers will not disappoint. The play follows the reunion of two brothers, in 1938, for a one-night tribute performance of their legendary Vaudeville act.

Set in Cape Breton, the play is “about life before, during and after the stage,” said co-director Lauren Saunders. “The audience can expect to see gorgeous period set and costumes, provided by the talents of Greg Perras and Kim Gerhart respectively. I like to say come for the ridiculous fun, stay for the nonstop laughs and be blown away by the heart!”

Featuring Rob Almond, Mark Rodrigues, and Dyanna Prisk, the show “promises to take audiences back in time to an often forgotten period of our Canadian history. It is an homage to live theatre and its continued influence on us today,” said co-director Veronica Leonard.

“Mark and Dyanna are veterans of the Huntsville Theatre Company stage. While this is Rob’s first foray back into community theatre after a long hiatus, he is no stranger to the Studio Theatre stage, having been the bass player in our production of The Rocky Horror Show in August 2016. Rob and Mark’s chemistry on stage as the Wakowski brothers is absolutely fantastic to watch. Then you place Dyanna in the mix and it’s simply magic! The audience will witness an extremely talented cast of three people who can sing, dance, play musical instruments, and act. Vaudeville shows were a collection of all of these things and we have the perfect cast to deliver them.”

I hope our audience takes away the fun spirit of these characters and the world they inhabit but also sees that behind what we might consider the glitz and glamour of entertainment, there are human beings going through the highs and lows of the human experience.

The Wakowski Brothers opens on Friday, March 24 and runs until Sunday, April 2, with both evening and matinee shows available. The show runs for 90 minutes without intermission. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at Treasures and Trophies, in Huntsville, or online at www.huntsvilletheatre.org.
