Howard and Muriel Carr were married on a day like today—70 years ago! They were married on April 4, 1953, in Huntsville.
Howard was born on April 10, 1930. He worked at Huntsville Dairy, and Ecclestone Hardware located on Main Street and, until he retired, he worked at Eaton’s for more than 25 years. He was also a full-time volunteer firefighter with Station 1 in Huntsville.
Muriel was born August 1, 1933, and worked most of her life until she retired from A&P in Brendale. Muriel spent a lot of her spare time volunteering at the Legion and also enjoyed being a Lioness lady.
Muriel grew up on Markle’s Road (named after her dad Emmett Markle) and Howard lived in town. After they were married, they purchased a house on Markle’s Road. In 1971, they moved into town and purchased a house on Chaffey Street until it sold and became a commercial property.
They had three children: Bobbie, Doug, and Debbie.
When a family member told them, “That’s a lot of years together…70 years!” Her reply was “Yes it sure is!” and his reply was “We’ve had fun though, eh.”
Howard said his secret to keeping it together was to listen to the boss, noted their daughter Debbie.
Howard and Muriel love to spend time with their 10 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Congratulations to Muriel and Howard for celebrating their Platinum Jubilee!
