With a line up of thought-provoking and award winning films, Reel Docs, Reel Alternatives Huntsville’s annual film festival, promises a fascinating look at the world around us. Showing on-screen at the Algonquin Theatre from February 26-27, the festival’s line up includes several Academy Award nominees and winners.
The festival is sponsored by Community Living Huntsville and the Huntsville Festival of the Arts. Reel Alternatives has presented a variety of film festivals in the past, but “a doc fest makes for an intriguing package,” said HFA general manager Rob Saunders. “We looked at what was available and knew we wanted to have Amy, the story of Amy Winehouse. Some of our members went to TIFF and the Sudbury film festival to watch some of the others.”
One of the shows, Cowspiracy, is an environmental-themed film that will be screened on Friday afternoon so that students can attend. “We wanted some of the schools to come out for this one. There will be about 100 students from Huntsville Public here. They have a film project going on so they’re really excited about it.”
These are the films that will be screened over the two days:
