Huntsville OPP recognizes May as Mental Health Month

The Huntsville Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) recognizes May as Mental Health Month.

Did you know that the Huntsville OPP actively supports individuals experiencing mental health challenges in the communities of Huntsville and Lake of Bays? May is recognized as Mental Health Awareness Month in Canada and serves as an opportunity to remind our communities that a Mobile Crisis Response Team (MCRT) is available. The MCRT promotes a safe, compassionate, and less stressful approach to mental health-related calls for service.

The MCRT is a collaborative crisis response model in which a police officer and a crisis worker respond together to individuals in crisis.

Anyone can experience a crisis. Crisis workers, who are trained mental health clinicians, bring specialized skills that are valuable in many situations. This partnership allows the crisis worker to focus on de-escalation and support, while the police officer ensures public safety and addresses any necessary investigative responsibilities.

There are many local resources available for those experiencing mental health challenges or crisis. If you or someone you care about needs support, please reach out to one of the many services available in your community.
