Huntsville Minor Lacrosse celebrated a banner season with their annual awards banquet last week, held in the Active Living Centre and active it was. Starting with the youngest players, the Paperweights, who according to their coach Jeff Higgs adapted to the rules and spirit of lacrosse right away, 11 teams in both box and field lacrosse were represented. According to club president Jason Rudge, this season saw 190 kids suit up for box lacrosse while 105 played field lacrosse.
Rudge had these words of wisdom to pass along to the players: “Be proud for the jersey that you put on this season, remember every success, failure, sweat and tears as these memories and friendships will last long after your sport ends.
“You are all now part of the lacrosse brotherhood as this game brings you friendships that will last a lifetime. With this great game also comes many opportunities in life and sport. You can follow the path of many current and past athletes that have put on a Hawks jersey and play at the national level or attend and play at a NCAA or Canadian University School. All this is very achievable as long as you put in the work in.”
Congratulations to the players, coaches and parents. The tradition of strong lacrosse teams in Huntsville is alive and well.
