On March 11 the Town of Huntsville advised that it had experienced a cyber security issue which led to the closure of Town Hall and the library (with the exception of scheduled March break programs).
“Upon discovering this incident, we initiated our incident response protocol and took immediate steps to isolate impacted systems and take others offline as a precaution,” noted the Town in a press release issued on the morning of March 11, 2024.
The Town said it engaged cybersecurity experts on the problem and issued another update on March 12, 2024.
Cyber security specialists have been conducting a comprehensive investigation into the cause and extent of the breach.
Today, March 13, it announced that the facilities had reopened but advised that those requiring services should call ahead to ensure those services were available. It also noted that some municipal emails had been impacted.
The municipality issued the video message above on March 13, 2024, at approximately 6 p.m.
The Town of Huntsville is the latest municipality impacted by a cyber attack along with municipalities such as Toronto and Hamilton.
