A 57-year-old Huntsville man has been sentenced to 90 days of house arrest after pleading guilty to a break and enter at a cottage on Crescent Bay Lane last summer.
Lindsay Mortson appeared in a Bracebridge courtroom recently, where he entered a guilty plea in connection with the August 7, 2024 incident.
According to the facts read in court, Mortson was caught on surveillance video inside the residence and was later identified by investigators. When the property owner arrived, Mortson was found inside, and it appeared he had been living in the cottage. The court heard that some cash had been stolen.
Mortson, who has a prior criminal record, received a 90-day conditional sentence to be served under house arrest.
During sentencing, the presiding justice noted the potential danger inherent in break-and-enter cases.
“Those events can go pretty badly. There’s no telling how they’ll react,” the justice cautioned.
