Huntsville male arrested twice the same day faces charges

On September 18, 2025, a male was involved in a shoplifting incident at the Freshmart in Port Sydney, Ontario, where alcohol and other food items were taken.

Police identified the male on September 30, 2025, and arrested him for his involvement. The male was released from custody with a pending court date at the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge.

Later that same day, at approximately 2 p.m., Huntsville OPP officers responded to a report of a male brandishing a weapon thought to be a knife in the West Road area of Huntsville.

The investigation revealed the suspect to be the same male who was arrested earlier and subsequently released. Although the suspect’s behaviour was aggressive, no members of the public were injured.

Witnesses provided valuable information, and as a result of the investigation, the male was located and arrested without incident.

At this time, the accused, Saverio CERRA, 47 years old of Huntsville, Ontario, has been charged with:

·      Assault with a Weapon

·      Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose

·      Theft under $5000

The accused was held in custody and will appear in Bail Court before the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge Ontario on October 1, 2025.

The Huntsville OPP want to thank all witnesses and advise there is no concern for public safety.
