Another gold for the Huntsville Hurricanes! The U16 Major Midget Boys travelled to Ottawa on May 12-14 where they won the Ontario Cup Provincial Championships for Division 11.
On Friday, the Hurricanes played against the GBA Hornets winning 63-35. Saturday had them facing the East-Side City Warriors East, a game they won handily at 58-36. Their third win in the Sunday morning semi-finals – 51-38 against the Ancaster Magic – secured their place in the final game against Penetanguishene.
The Hurricanes had a major advantage, said Assistant Coach Chuck Cooper. “These boys are a talented group and when you can run that many good players during a game the opponents better bring their game.” The team’s love for the game had the boys play hard for each other and for their coaches. It definitely showed in the championship game as the Hurricanes beat Penetang and won the gold with a score of 44-37.
Overall, the Huntsville Hurricanes U16 Boys were 20-4 for the season, including gold medal wins at the IEM Tournament (Newmarket) and this Provincial Ontario Cup (Ottawa).
Congratulations U16 Boys! Some last words from Coach Cooper: “You all were a pleasure to coach.”
