Huntsville Hospital celebrates a new delivery to help new deliveries

Local donors and physicians assist the stork by delivering two new GE Panda Infant Warmers to Huntsville Hospital!

The Huntsville Hospital Foundation (HHF) is thrilled to announce that our devoted donors, Chris and George Gilley have yet again come to the rescue. This time around it was to replace much-needed infant warmers to the labour and delivery unit at the hospital. Their generous gift of over $50,000 started a ripple effect that saw a number of our own doctors make significant donations so that two warmers could be purchased. Dr. Sheena Branigan, Dr. Rich Trenholm, Dr. Caroline Correia, and Dr. Andrew MacMillan made the purchase of a second Panda warmer possible by pitching in!

“We are very fortunate that our physicians take a lead in supporting their hospital and patients,” says Katherine Craine, Executive Director of the Foundation. “These individuals along with many of MAHC’s other physicians are all community members who continue to invest in healthcare for life here. We can’t thank them enough.”

Dr. Branigan, Chair of the Obstetrics Committee at MAHC, is ecstatic.

“What we have going for us in Huntsville at MAHC is a team that are supportive of the families that we care for and of each other,” says Dr. Branigan. “I always know that I will get support even when facing a clinical situation that is by definition outside of the scope of our practice. The infant warmers would provide the systems support that we need to provide the highest level of care to our community.”

The infant warmer is a vital piece of equipment used to help newborns transition in the immediate postpartum period. It is used in all newborn resuscitations to stabilize the infant temperature, and provides an area of care for the interprofessional team to collaborate. The infant warmer also houses other pieces of equipment used in most deliveries and resuscitations. The Panda warmer allows for newborn weight to be taken, which is particularly important in resuscitative care, as the newborn does not need to be disturbed to obtain this critical value. The infant warmer allows professionals to work under best practice and ensures a standard level of care for all newborns. It helps staff provide the best start possible for babies born at the Huntsville Hospital.
